Yesterday was one of those terrific days that make me love living in the city even more. My neighbor, Trisha, and I walked to the library to take Bennet and her daughter, LaVaughn, to Mother Goose on the Loose. Bennet and LaVaughn had a great time drooling and holding hands and being adorable.
Until I had a baby, I really wasn't much for walking places in the city. Post Bennet, more out of the necessity of losing baby weight than anything else, I started walking everywhere. To the bank to use the ATM, to the grocery store, to the post office, to the library - everywhere I could. Now, it's nothing for Bennet and I to clock three or four miles in a day just walking all around running various city errands. I love it.
I love walking around my city and seeing all the sights and being out in the hustle and bustle. I love not moving my car for literally days at a time sometimes. I love feeling like I am staying local in my neighborhood, patronizing businesses, restaurants, farmers markets, etc. that are literally right in my back yard. It feels good.
It also feels good to go for a long walk with a friend. I am so glad Trisha could join me yesterday. It's always fun to spend time with another mommy, especially another mommy who lives one house away. How convenient! Trisha may not know this, but my plan is to make her and LaVaughn go for lots and lots of long walks with us. The exercise, the conversation, the "city-ness" of it all - it's a great thing to be a part of.
