On Sunday night, we made our first venison meal - chili. While not an extremely adventurous choice, it was yummy. Once we had gotten our feet wet with cooking deer meat, we planned some other exciting (and healthy) meals for the coming week.
Last night I cooked Venison Curry. I sort of made the recipe up from a few other curry recipes I found online. Here's everything at the beginning when it was just starting off...
We are big Indian food fans. We were not disappointed by this meal! Mmmm, curry!
Recipe:
Ingredients
- 1 cup white rice
- 2 cups water
- Salt and ground black pepper, to taste
- 1 tablespoon Extra Virgin Olive Oil
- 1 pound venison
- 1 large yellow onion, thinly sliced
- 2 tablespoons curry powder
- 1 cup plain yogurt
- 1 14.5-ounce can diced tomatoes, drained
Directions
In a medium saucepan over medium-high heat, combine rice, water and salt. Bring to a boil then reduce heat. Simmer, covered, 15-20 minutes, until rice is tender and liquid is absorbed.
Once the rice is going, place a large skillet over medium-high heat with olive oil and brown the venison. Add the onion and cook, stirring occasionally, until cooked through.
Sprinkle with the curry powder and cook, stirring, for 1 minute. Add the yogurt and simmer. Stir in some salt, pepper and the tomatoes.
Serve with Naan or flatbread. Makes 4 servings.
What a delicious meal! Tonight, we're making Teriyaki Venison Meatballs and some other Hawaiian foods and watching the "Lost" premier! Can't wait!

This totally made me thing of "Bubba Shrimp" from Forrest Gump. Only it's millions of Venison recipes, instead of Shrimp recipes.
PLEASE tell me I'm not the ONLY one that made the connection, here?!
You're cute. :) Venison is yummy. :)
The chili was fab! We'll eat your venison anytime :)
Terri, I'm so sorry to hear about your Dad. I will keep you and your family in my prayers. I can only imagine what you all are going through. BTW, the venison looks so delicious it almost makes me want to try some...
