In addition to Bennet's new car, another free thing our family was involved in this weekend was a trip to AVAM - the American Visionary Art Museum. We've been to weddings and parties there, but have never had the opportunity to explore the museum itself. Bank of America is running a promotion in 2009 for their customers, giving them free admission to lots of museums on the first weekend of every month! We plan to make our way through all of the Baltimore museums on the list. AVAM being half a mile from our house, we made it our first stop!
Andrew and I really enjoyed looking around the museum. My favorite exhibit was a wall filled with carvings an artist had carved from the lead tips of pencils. Giraffes, hammers, cars - all so small that you needed a magnifying glass to see them. Andrew enjoyed an exhibit the museum is currently running on screen painters in Baltimore. AVAM is filled with interesting art and sculptures, and was a fun way to spend a Saturday afternoon.
Bennet enjoyed his day at the museum, too. The exhibits were, of course, a little too grown up for him, but he loved all of the amazing glass and mirror sculptures and the bright, beautiful colors all over the museum (oh, and riding in the elevator.) His favorite part was the mirrored egg sculpture outside of the museum. He couldn't keep his hands off of it!
Bank of America customers, you should really look into this offer and see what museums in your area are offering free admission! Free family fun - you can't beat it!
