i knew he was big.

WELL, we went for our 36-week ultrasound on this past Friday (I was actually 35 weeks & 3 days, but who's counting?) Our darling little Bennet appears to be "not so little," which isn't really a surprise to me - I think I called it a few weeks back that I was having a huge baby and I was convinced of it because of all the back pain I've had. Turns out I was spot on...which isn't exactly great news - but oh well - at least he's a healthy boy!

Right away, the ultrasound tech asked me if it was possible that I was off on my due date, because he was measuring to be 38 weeks, not 36. Apparently his head and abdomen are in the 95th percentile. For those of you who don't understand what that means - it means that 95% of babies at his stage of growth are smaller than him, and only 5% are bigger. YIKES. Our son is a giant. So right now, at 36 weeks, he is measuring at 7.2 pounds. Add a 1/2 to 1 pound gain per week and we're definitely looking at a 9 or 10 pound baby.

So I had a nice phone conversation with my doc
tor today (sadly, the last one before the baby because she gets induced and has her little one tomorrow) and here's the deal:

She double-checked the ultrasound pictures herself and the baby is most absolutely enormous. At this stage in the game, she is not going to change my due date or anything - she just wants to watch the baby. So now, twice a week, I will be going into their office to have fetal NST monitoring to make sure his heart rate is okay and he is not in any distress. They'll also probably do a few ultrasounds here coming up to monitor his size. So basically, me and the doctor's office are going to be best pals until I have this baby - which I am NOT thrilled about. But what can you do? Not much.

There is a chance that my body will realize that there is little chance that I can birth a 10-pound baby, and I will go into labor some time soon before he gets bigger. That would be my first choice, which means it probably won't happen - but if everyone would say a little prayer that it DOES, I'd appreciate it! Dr. Hunter says that they absolutely will not let me go past my due date, which is good to know - at least he won't be late! She says if I make it to May 6th, they will either induce me and let me try to have the baby on my own or that I will have the option to say I don't even want to try to have a 9-10 pound baby and sign up for a c-section. If I DO decide to try, they won't let me push for more than 2 hours and then they'll automatically do a c-section because of the risk of me getting hurt, or the baby's shoulders getting hurt coming through the birth canal.

So for now...we wait...and hope that I go into labor some time really soon. She said even if I go into labor today, that there is no reason to worry because he is 7.2 pounds and healthy and ready to go. Which brings me to the question of why
they wouldn't induce me early while he is still small and give me a fighting chance of having a normal delivery. I forgot to ask her that, but when I see the doctor who is covering for her this week - I will be checking into it! Of course, he'll be close to 8 pounds by then...GOODNESS GRACIOUS.

Friday's ultrasound included some 4-D pictures, and although he was not cooperating and you can only see half of his face, they're still prett
y cool. I'm headed into the office this afternoon, so I'll be scanning them then and I'll post them soon. He has extremely chubby cheeks...big shocker!

Stay tuned for more on my super-huge baby...in the meantime, here's a few of our adorable baby bump photos that Tiffanie did for us last week. She's amazing!

Terri!!! Girl, I cannot imagine that he is already 7 pounds!!!! I will be praying for you. If you are like me in any way, I do not want a c-section. So may God grant you an early and safe delivery! Good luck and start doing everything you can to get him to come early. It will be here before you know it!

Dear Terri and Andrew,
Are you trying to beat Uncle Scott's impressive birth rate ? ( 9 # 4 oz ) Let's let him hold the family record ! :-) I'm in favor of a nice normal birth in a week or so with baby Bennet weighing in at 8# 6 oz's ---just like his Mommy and Daddy!
