two months.

Bennet had his 2-month check-up today and it went very well! We weren't sure what Dr. Bucci would say about his weight since he's a little chunky, but he said that Bennet is a beautiful baby and that Bennet looks exactly how he loves to see babies look, him being Italian and everything (Bucci, not Bennet.) He said that any guilt I felt about stopping breastfeeding after that first month should be banished by how healthy and gorgeous Bennet is and that clearly he is thriving with bottle-feeding. That made me feel really great!

Bennet weighs 13.9 pounds on the official Dr.-Bucci's-Office-Scale, putting him in the 75th percentile for weight. He's 24 inches long, also putting him in the 75th percentile for height. His head circumference is 40-something inches (the paper is downstairs,) which puts him in the 90th percentile for head size...we knew he had a big 'ole head! My favorite thing about all of these measurements is that they give you all of them on a little piece of paper that says, "For the baby book..." so you can have them for your scrapbook. Love it!

We also talked about our concern with Bennet's new phase of screaming the entire time we are in the car. This started on our drive home from Clearfield this weekend and has not stopped since, thus making driving anywhere very unnerving for Mommy! Dr. Bucci says sometimes infants develop a fear of the back seat and do not like being alone. Since I cannot sit back there with him when I'm driving (obviously,) he wants me to put a big picture of my face back there so Bennet can see it. I can't wait to give this a try!

Dr. Bucci asked if Bennet is sleeping through the night. My response was, "No, we put him down at around 7:30 and then he wakes up at 2 and 5 to eat." He said that the 7:30 to 2:00 stretch IS sleeping through the night (6 1/2 hours!) and that he wants us to try putting him down at 7:30, waking him at 10 or 11 and feeding him and then putting him back to bed. He thinks that will cause him to sleep from 10-4 or 11-5, which would be great. I can't wait to give this a try either!

Now...on to the sad part of the visit. Bennet got his first vaccinations today. He got 2 shots in one thigh and 1 in the other, plus one by mouth. To say he cried is an understatement. The poor little guy SCREAMED his head off. His little face turned purple and he was flailing his arms around looking for me. Sad, sad, sad. When I picked him up, he held onto me so tight. It broke my heart. I definitely did not expect that, especially considering that throughout all of his jaundice and thyroid blood work, he never made a sound. Poor little guy. So now he has to take Tylenol every 4-6 hours and he may feel really sleepy and miserable for a day or so. Right now he is asleep in his swing, recovering from the day's events. Poor, poor little guy.

Overall, this was a fantastic 2-month appointment! He goes back in September for his 4-month...I'll be dreading that round of shots more than he will.

Oh, those shots hurt so much - us I mean. They hurt them but they hurt us to watch them in pain. Tears just stream down my face when we go in for shots, or blood work (which is much worse in James' case).
